‘Newlyn Blues’ was inspired by the blueness of the ocean and the surrounding skies. It was inspired by that quest for light that many had themselves undertaken and by the subsequent coming together of the two elements that make the town famous; fishing and art. For me, it was the ‘made’ landscape around the harbour that drew me. It was about the fishing boats, the industry that supports them, the people, the sounds, the smells and the textures. It was about seeking beauty in the mundane, about finding order among the chaos and of course it was about the colour blue.

It is certainly about much more than that. It is about a quest for identity, a search for a ‘home’, the struggle against time and a journey I may or may not be on.
